Japan to Invest $1.5 Billion in New Energy Projects Near Samarkand
The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) will finance the construction of two major energy complexes, integrating solar power plants and energy storage systems, in the Samarkand region. The total investment volume for the project will amount to approximately $1.45 billion.
Тhe combined capacity of the facilities under construction will reach 1,000 megawatts (MW), making them one of the most significant renewable energy projects in the republic.
The financing is being provided by a consortium led by JBIC, which will contribute $635 million. Private Japanese banks, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. and Norinchukin Bank, have also joined the project.
The project involves the Saudi Arabian company ACWA Power, which holds a 51% stake, as well as Japanese energy companies Sumitomo Corp., Chubu Electric Power, and Shikoku Electric Power. Risk insurance will be provided by the Japanese organization NEXI.
