New hydropower capacities are an important factor in the socio–economic development of the region

13.03.2023

In Surkhandarya region, the company carries out step-by-step practical work on the effective use of the existing hydropower potential, the launch of new capacities. In particular, in Surkhandarya region in 2023-2030, 601.4 MW will be built on the basis of 81 projects, annual output -2,038.2 million kWh. It is planned to launch new capacities equivalent to hours.

At the same time, in the current 2023, 184.1 MW of capacity will be introduced only in Surkhandarya region on the basis of 6 projects.

At the same time, the total renewable capacity of the HPP is 175 MW (previously 30 MW), and the rest is accounted for by micro- and small HPPs, as well as micro-HPPs with kinetic turbines standing on the water surface.

It should be noted that preliminary work on the construction of the Zarchob-3 hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 16 MW is currently underway on the basis of a new promising project. In addition, on the basis of promising projects in the coming years, the Verkhnetupalangsky HPPs with a capacity of 264 MW will be built in the upper reaches of the Tupalang River, a total of 20 projects.

However, in this process, special attention is paid to micro-hydroelectric power plants implemented by the company in the private sector. In particular, projects with a total capacity of 25.8 MW will be launched in Surkhandarya region on the basis of 55 projects. Of these, in 2023, on the basis of 8 projects, new projects with a total capacity of 10.1 MW will be launched to generate clean electricity for the population. In this regard, 5 projects with a capacity of 9.1 MW will be launched, and 3 new projects will be launched by the private sector – microelectric power plants with a capacity of 1 MW.

As a result of the work carried out, savings of 582 million m3 of natural gas will be achieved. It will also create 1,560 new jobs and provide electricity to more than 850,000 households.

Until now, clean electricity has been generated on the Tupalang River by the waterproofing systems “Tupalang" (30 MW), "Zarchob-1" (37.4 MW) and "Zarchob-2" (38.2 MW). Now new capacities are being introduced due to a further increase in this indicator.

Today, on March 13, as a result of the modernization work carried out at the Tupalang HPP, the capacity of the hydroelectric power plant was increased by 145 MW, and the head of our state Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched the commissioning of a large HPP with an updated capacity of 175 MW in an online format.

For reference:

In Surkhandarya region, one of the projects in the field of hydropower, the project “Modernization of the Tupalang HPP”, is being completely modernized and launched at new large capacities.

Project: based on the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 57 dated January 31, 2020, Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-459 dated December 28, 2022, modernization works have been provided.

Project area: 22.2 hectares, area of buildings and structures 14,600 meters.sq.

Design capacity: 175 MW (+145 MW).

Production capacity: 467 million kW.the watch produces environmentally friendly electricity.

Number of jobs: 70.

Implementation period: 2020-2023.

At this stage, given the high hydropower potential of the Tupalang reservoir, there is a possibility of building even more powerful hydroelectric power plants.

Step-by-step practical work is underway to further expand the use of the existing hydropower potential of natural and artificial watercourses and renewable energy sources in the production of electricity.
