INDUSTRY UPDATE: MODERNIZATION
The development of the country's hydropower industry, including through the introduction of HPS, the modernization of hydraulic structures, increases the capacity of electricity production, which creates the basis for the well-being of the population, the further development of the entire socio-economic complex of its regions.
According to the Presidential Decree № PD-2947 of May 2, 2017, the modernization of HPS-1, worth 11.14 million US dollars, was taken on a turnkey basis (EPC) by the Chinese international company China National Technical Import and Export Corporation (CNTIC). Domestic companies such as JSC “Uzbekhydroenergo”, JSC “Hydroproject”, JSC “Uzbekhydroenergokurilish” also took part in the implementation of the project. This has become a significant contribution to the consistent reforms carried out in the field of hydropower, which in turn is an integral part of the energy sector of the Republic.
HPS-1, which is part of the "Cascade of Tashkent HPS", was built back in 1926 in the Yunusabad district of the capital. In the HPS, the total capacity of which was 4 MW, 4 hydraulic units were installed, which, as a result of many years of operation, came to a state of technical deterioration, which did not allow them to continue their effective operation. According to the results of the survey, the station building was not suitable for replacing the units, and it was decided to build a new building on the left bank of the station site with two units of the Kaplan type.
As a result of modernization, as of December 27, 2022, both hydraulic units were launched in test mode. The capacity of each of them is 3 MW, which makes it possible to bring the total capacity of the HPS to 6 MW. These hydraulic units have the ability to produce electricity even during periods of low water. Annual electricity generation is 44.4 million kWh. At the moment, the final finishing works, adjustment of equipment and landscaping are being carried out at the station.
It should be noted that the release of HPS-1 at full capacity is one of the important achievements of the country's economy, leading to the development of industrial enterprises, the growth of the well-being of the people.
