Solar panels with a capacity of about 2000 megawatts will be installed in Tashkent

09.02.2023

It is planned to build a new photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 500 MW in the Yukorichirchik district.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on topical issues of Tashkent. The first item on the discussion agenda was the growing demand of the capital for electricity and gas. The Head of State pointed to the use of renewable energy sources to solve this issue.

In the capital there are opportunities for installing solar photopanels for 2 thousand MW. This will make it possible to produce an additional 1.08 billion kWh of electricity — 4.5 times more than the expected growth in demand in the year.

The President outlined the tasks for the energy supply of Tashkent. Large enterprises and industrial zones have been instructed to provide 400 million kWh of generation per year through the installation of photo panels, 75 million kWh for social facilities and state institutions.

In addition, a large 500 MW power plant has been commissioned in the Yukorichirchik district. In general, about $1 billion will be allocated to the capital for the introduction of renewable energy sources.

The President also noted the importance of moving away from the monopoly on electricity generation. The state will be guaranteed to purchase electricity from entrepreneurs who have installed photo panels, and in the future will allow it to be sold directly to other consumers. Citizens who have installed solar panels at home will be able to sell excess electricity at a price of 1000 soums per kWh (now 295 sums per kWh). The money will be transferred to the owner's bank card on a monthly basis.

The changes will also affect the heating system. It is planned to modernize the internal heating systems in 1817 apartment buildings, as well as more than 300 km of main heating pipes — this will reduce heat loss by 5%.
