Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Agree to Strengthen Cooperation in Energy and Water Resources

The heads of the energy authorities of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to enhance coordination in the water and energy sector.

On February 13, a trilateral meeting of the energy ministers of the three countries was held in Tashkent, along with a separate session involving heads of relevant agencies.

The talks were attended by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov, Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibrayev, and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov. Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy Daler Juma was also invited to the meeting.

The parties discussed the current state of cooperation in managing water and energy resources, as well as issues related to ensuring the stable operation of the regional power system.

Special attention was given to coordinating power plant operating regimes, adhering to agreed water usage parameters, and developing joint solutions.

The importance of mutual support during seasonal peak loads and maintaining stable water levels in transboundary rivers to ensure regional energy security was emphasized.

Following the meeting, a protocol was signed formalizing the agreements reached and confirming the parties’ intention to continue cooperation.
